Entrance Needs Restoration
Landmark Preservation contracted Mobile Metalworks LLC to restore the metalwork of the cast iron canopy of the Atlanta iconic Ponce Condominiums.
Situated at the intersection of Ponce de Leon Avenue and Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta, ‘The Ponce,’ an 11-story structure, holds a special place in the neighborhood’s history. It was Atlanta’s pioneering high-rise luxury apartment building, welcoming its first residents in 1913. The building’s unique blend of Beaux Arts and Italianate architectural styles, designed by the esteemed architect William Stoddard, has made it a popular backdrop for numerous Hollywood films and television shows.
Clean, Repair, and Restore
Our team undertook the formidable task of shoring up the front entrance canopy. We removed and cleaned a decade’s worth of corrosion, thoroughly fixed previous repairs , and replaced pieces with new steel and hardware. The classic cast iron canopy restoration was not without its challenges, particularly the need to work around pedestrians who continued to use the area as we worked, a testament to our team’s dedication and the project’s complexity.
Furthermore, the condition and composition of the cast iron presented significant hurdles, and the logistics of sourcing materials and supplies in the heart of Atlanta proved to be a daunting challenge.
